Yesterday a vulnerability was discovered: a specially crafted URL could be requested that would allow an attacker to bypass a security check to verify a user requested a password reset. As a result, the first account without a key in the database (usually the admin account) would have its password reset and a new password would be emailed to the account owner. This doesn’t allow remote access, but it is very annoying.

We fixed this problem last night and have been testing the fixes and looking for other problems since then. Version 2.8.4 which fixes all known problems is now available for download and is highly recommended for all users of WordPress.

Moving contents from one blog to another is a kind of a request people quite often turn to design companies or IT companies in general. It was kind of unknown to me how to perform the operation myself until recently. But the solution was right near me. To be more precise it was right near me in the admin panel of the WP platform.

You’re just a few steps away from performing a would-be difficult operation all on your own.

1. First choose “Manage” tab then click on “Import”. It kind of rolls on from there. I guess, you’ll be bale to follow the rest of the steps yourself. Still the second step is right below)

2. The “Import” tab features an extensive list of platforms you need to migrate the contents to choose from.

3. Click on whatever name you wish.

4. Input your authorization details - login / password.

5. Afterwards choose a blog you need to import. Also you’ll need to indicate moved posts author’s name.

6. The operation is still incomplete. Go to the “Manage - Export” tabs.

7. Download an XML file with the contents necessary.

8. Once again go to the “Manage-Import” in the navigation bar.

9. Choose the last option - “WordPress - Import posts, comments, custom fields, pages, and categories from a WordPress export file”.

10. Browse through files and find the required XML file we’ve just downloaded.

11. The final step - just click the “Upload and import” button.

Congratulations - you have just migrated the contents from another platform all by yourself! Isn’t taht something to be proud of? Yes, indeed. Let’s call it a day for now.

All in One SEO Pack is a plugin that allows you to customize your WP blog in a SEO-friendly manner. One of the options the plugin provides is an automatic optimization of the blog titles displayed in the browser line - both for home page and posts page. It means you will have a brief description of a blog that may go before or after the blog name and there will also be a post title in the browser line for posts pages. This is the way to show users what your blog is dedicated to and that’s definitely more important than just showing the title of the blog.

The plugin generates meta-tags - it means that the search engine will search your blog by the tags your blog contains, not only by its title.

To see some more All in One SEO Pack features and downlaod the plugin,

You’ve probably read plenty of articles on why blogging can be actually good for you and your business. Well, I’ve read a hefty of such articles, but most of them were written from the “how-to-monetize-your-blog” point of view. I love the idea of getting money from the blog, the more the better, bring it on. But on the other hand, you also strive to put a bit of yourself into the blog you’re running. Is it all about money now? I also like the idea of bringing the clients and companies closer together. Besides, when money-making is the only or primary purpose of running a blog, I believe the contents of the blog may start to suffer. That’s of course not the case for all money-making bloggers. Imagine, that a person runs a blog only for the sake of getting money, so he or she should post frequently even if there’s not really a lot of interesting stuff to post about. That kind of puts pressure on blogger and the whole blogging experience. That’s tough. As far as I’m concerned, I have all the excitement to gradually turn the blog into a significant project step by step without any rush.

Sorry, for bearing off the subject a bit. The article I was talking about is pretty good, nothing you haven’t heard or read before, yet it puts things on blogging into a neat and clear summary and after reading it you start to think why on earth haven’t I started to blog before?!

So since today I’m a lucky user of WP version 2.6.3.

We continue our Wordpress education - so far we’re still in the freshmen category, but pretty soon we’ll be bale to customize and upgrade the blog to the extent of a real complex machine! Let’s figure out what is the easiest way to add a tag cloud on to the blog

In order to make it nice and easy let’s use a plug-in for a tag cloud instead of pasting a code into a sidebar.php document. There’s plenty of plug-ins around, but as an example I’ll show you how things are done with the one I’m using myself) No objections? Cool.

The plug-in is called TagALLY. It’s good cause there are plenty of customization options to make anyone happy. You’ll be able to change the color of each individual tag, its size etc. Let’s install the plug-in step by step again.

1. Go to http://blog.tagally.com/2008/05/30/tagally-for-wp-v031-the-wordpress-tag-cloud-plugin-download and download the plug-in.

2. Unzip and save the folder in wp-content/plugins derictory.

3. Go to the Plug-ins section of the admin part of your WP blog - you may find it in the top right of the page stuck between “Settings” and “Users”.

4. Activate the plugin and visit Widgets section. Add the TagAlly widget to the list of the widgets you currently use.

5. Then click on the Dashboard button. You may find it on the very top page on the left. Basically, dashboard is the homepage of the admin area of the blog.

6. There you are - click on the TagAlly button and get down to optimizing your tag cloud.

Congrats! You’ve just added a tag cloud to your site. Take your time and celebrate the occasion before we learn something new.
