Let’s customize our WP
Customizing your WP platform can be a very addictive and fun thing to do. So this post will be dedicated to uploading new themes and plug-ins on to your WP site in order to extend its functionality and make blog look more beautiful.
1. Theme upload:
Initially users may choose only from a couple of standard Wordpress themes available in the Design section of the WP admin area. Basically, after running your blog for a while you start to think it would be great to give your theme a new look. Before you and your visitors get all excited after seeing your brand new theme, there’s a certain succession of actions you should undertake. Let’s take a look.
- First search for a theme you’d like your blog to have. Themes can be free or you may purchase one.
Check http://free-wp-themes.com/ for instance, to pick a new theme.
- Once you’re done with a grueling theme choosing process (I use the term “grueling” loosely. This process is quite enjoying, actually), download a theme in a .zip file.
- Unzip a file that contains a folder with a new theme into wp-content/themes folder. It is located in the directory you installed WP into. In my case it is - https://wp-pipe.com:2078/www/wp-content/themes
- Now as a folder with a new theme is placed in the correct folder, take a visit to the admin area of your WP blog - choose Design - Themes category in the admin area. If all the previous steps were done properly, you’ll see a new theme uploaded to your site to choose from.
Download as many themes you like and upload them to your viewing pleasure. Cool, innit?
2. Plug-ins installation:
That sounded like a complete mystery to me, but it’s a piece of cake. Just follow the same steps as with a theme, but unzip a file into an appropriate folder https://wp-pipe.com:2078/www/wp-content/plugins. Then go to the admin area and choose plug-ins in the bar on the top right. Find the list of available plug-ins in that category and activate the necessary ones.
There you go - no mess no fuss. Try it out and enjoy numerous benefits and advantages WP offers.
